Sample Lessons
Safety Lesson

Grades 9-10
​
Students travel around the lab visiting different pieces of safety equipment (fire extinguisher, eyewash, fire blanket, etc.) Using the camera on their smartphones and the app, Aurasma, the target (the safety equipment) launches videos showing students the importance and proper use of each piece of safety equipment.
Students then answer questions on a Google Form to demonstrate their understanding.
Alternate assessment: have students create and share their own safety video using the equipment in the lab

Asexual Reproduction

Grade 9
​
Students watch a brief YouTube video that introduces the concept of asexual reproduction. Students make a chart (on paper or electronically) and define the 5 different kinds of asexual reproduction. The students are then given examples of living things that reproduce asexually. The students classify the organisms by placing them in the correct column of their chart.

Introduction to the Elements

Grade 9 but could easily adapted for Grade 10
​
Students make element cubes from templates provided by 4D Elements. Using the app, DAQRI 4D Elements, students point their cameras at the constructed cubes. The cubes seem to come alive through augmented reality and students can make observations on what the element look like (color, phase and other properties). Those observations can then be placed into a chart. Many other lessons can built upon this introductory one.
